Deepening Your Relationship with God Through Prayer.

Day 6: Intercession for the Unreached

“After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” Revelation 7:9-10

Our perspective influences how we think, act, and respond to the world around us. But no matter what we think, there are some hard facts that we must grapple with regarding the numbers of unreached peoples that remain in our generation.

Currently, nearly 2.9 billion of the world’s people are unreached, which accounts for approximately 42% of the world’s people groups. Let’s just pause here for a moment and allow ourselves to be challenged by the enormity of those numbers. The next logical question that often emerges when I share this information with groups of people is “how can I/we even make a difference?”

It seems nearly impossible to address an audience of roughly 3 billion people – it’s overwhelming to even consider at times. However, when I take a deep breath and begin to examine all the ways that God is at work, something shifts in my heart, my attitude, and in my understanding that causes me to desire to see what my Father sees and more fully hear what my Father is saying.

With that idea in mind, I want to encourage each of you right now to reflect on this section of scripture: “behold, a great multitude which no one could number.”  Ask yourself, how did each one of those tribes or tongues end up before the throne in the first place?

The truth is someone prayed – they prayed for God to Ekballo (send forth) laborers to the harvest field to bring the Gospel to an unreached people. It’s also likely that another person prayed for God to raise-up and identify a “man of peace” that a missionary team could partner with to learn about a specific people group and work to understand their needs. Whatever the case, prayer was the starting point in a process that ends with every tribe before the throne.

The unreached are on God’s heart day and night.  He has a plan and purpose for your life – and it involves becoming more actively engaged in serving, supporting, and praying for various unreached, unengaged people groups throughout the world so that every nation, tribe, and tongue can worship together on that day.

I’ve served in various leadership roles for the US Center for World Mission since 2010.  Since then, I have come to more deeply admire and esteem my brothers and sisters who are actively serving in the field. Why? Because I see the cost of what they have left behind and are willing to sacrifice to go and share the Gospel with others and the price they have paid (often very high) to remain. So, it’s humbling and sobering all at once.

All the nations that are represented in the scripture above are reflections of the faithfulness of God and the fruitfulness of His chosen disciples who were willing to say, “here I am Lord, send me”. Now, more than ever, God is calling forth His sons and daughters to respond to His unconditional love by demonstrating His goodness and mercy to those He longs to see standing before the throne and the Lamb. How will this generation respond? How will you respond if He says, “Come”? If you’ve said yes, what is your next step?

Father, we come before You now and give You thanks and praise for all that You have done to show Your loving kindness to us. We pray that You would open our eyes so that we may see the full measure of the promise and purpose You have entrusted to us for such a time as this. Father, strengthen our hands and give us courage so that we may be found faithful to share Your love, grace, peace and hope in all the nations!
